What if...?

Imagine a world where other media imitated the Web when it comes to content.
  • TV and radio would be mainly about building antennas, receivers and transmitters
  • Most newspapers would report on the latest developments regarding printing technologies or feature philosphical rants on the nature of publishing
Don't get me wrong. I love technical debates and information on the Web. But I guess the overwhelming bulk of self-referential subjects just shows how much this medium still has to mature. Posted by jens at February 27, 2004 01:40 PM | TrackBack

nah, sorry ...

i think your point of view strongly depends on the world you live in. for example my parents or collegues just don't care about standards, technology and all the like. they just want content, no matter how.

i'd say you see all these interestlopps because you are a technically oriented nerd who reads technically oriented stuff and talks with other technically oriented nerds about what you and they have read.

yes ... the internet does talk about itself a lot ... but you don't need to read that, do you? you could also go to your favorite newspaper, to amazon or whatever ... to not need to talk about the nature of the internet.

oh ... and i for myself like that kind of self-awareness of the internet :-) it tries to improve ... thats a good thing, i think.

This may be true for the usenet, which is very alive btw, but we access it by google.groups nowadays...
but on the other hand, i guess this depends on the keywords i use...
